Alappuzha also known as Alleppey, is a town in Alappuzha District of Kerala state of southern India.
Alappuzha is also known as the Venice of East due to its several waterways that form an intricate channel of lagoons, lakes and canals, pristine scenic beauty, alluring backwaters, paddy fields, rich avian fauna and (of course) picturesque beaches lined with dense coconut and pine trees.
It is the only place in the world other than Holland where rice is cultivated well under the sea level.
Alappuzha offers enjoyable boat cruises to Kollam along the scenic Vembanad Lake. It is home to a vast network of waterways and more than 1000 houseboats. The never-ending panorama of lush green paddy fields, towering coconut trees, shimmering water and long canals around Alappuzha make a delightful setting for the town.
