Bikaner is a popular tourist destination in the state of Rajasthan. Bikaner is a desert town and situated in the north of Rajasthan in the middle of the Thar Desert. Bikaner is also known as the ‘Camel Country’. It has acquired fame for producing the best riding camels in the world. Camel is an indivisible part of life here.

Bikaner was founded by the Rathore prince, Rao Bikaji in the year 1488. Bikaji was one of the five sons of the king of Jodhpur, and post a remark from his father that he didn’t like, he set-up his kingdom in Bikaner with 100 cavalry horses and 500 soldiers, and established his kingdom on 84 villages abandoned by the ‘Shankhlas’. When Bikaji died in 1504 his rule had extended to over 3,000 villages.

Bikaner is famous for its beautiful palaces and forts. The Junagarh Fort, built by Raja Rai Singh, is the most famous fort in Bikaner and is a tribute to the Rajput style of architecture. The Laxmi Niwas Palace, Lalgarh Palace built by Maharaja Ganaga Singh in memory of his father, Gajner Palace are some of the other palaces in Bikaner which are in the Rajput style of architecture.

Bikaner is also famous for its beautiful temples and there are around 27 Jain Temples in the place. Karni Mata Temple; popularly known as the ‘rat temple’ is home to thousands of rats which seem to be everywhere and are considered holy by the devotees. The Karni Mata Fair is held at Deshnok twice a year – March/April and October/November.

Bhandasar Jain Temple, Ganga Government Museum, Prachina Museum, Shiv Bari Temple, Camel Breeding Farm are other tourist location to visit during Rajasthan Tour.

Bikaner is famous for its “Bikaneri Bhujia” sweets and snacks. Bhujia was first manufactured under the name of ‘Dungarshahi Bhujia’ to serve the guests of the King, Shri Dungar Singh.

The best season to visit this place is between October to March.

  • Winters (December to February) are chilly with minimum touches nearly 4 °C. The best time for tourism in Bikaner. Travelers mostly visit Bikaner during this season.
  • Summers(March to June) have the maximum temperature soaring to 47 °C, while the minimum is nearly 28 °C. Generally tourists avoid the hot summer months of April to June.
  • Monsoons (July to November) offer moderate rains and it makes the atmosphere humid.
