The Kulaba fort is located 1 km across from Alibag beach. It was Shivaji’s last construction and was completed almost on the eve of his death in April, 1680.
It is sea fort and has 900 ft. long, 350 ft. wide and has 25 ft. high walls which have 17 bastions (burj) on all sides.. One can notice carvings of animals like elephants and tigers on the entrance walls. There are several temples in the vicinity as well. Near the entrance gate many shrines of god and goddesses are present including Padmavathi, Sri Ganesh, Mahishasura, the fort-deity and Kanifnath.
