Japanese auto major Nissan today announced the global relaunch of its Datsun brand with the unveiling of hatchback ‘Datsun Go’, which will be priced less than Rs 4 lakh.
The car will be powered by a 1.2 litre petrol engine that has been ‘fully engineered in India’. It will be produced at one of the newest Renault-Nissan Alliance factories at Oragadam, in Chennai.
Datsun is the third brand for the Nissan Motor Company along with the company’s Nissan and Infiniti brands.
The five-door, front-wheel drive hatchback will come with a five-speed manual transmission, offering optimal response time and agility in congested traffic, and promises to seat five occupants in comfort. Nissan Go has comparatively compact body dimensions (width: 1635mm; height: 1485mm; length: 3785mm) and large wheelbase (2450mm).
The Datsun Go was developed majorly in India with inputs from France and Japan technical centers. Datsun will develop its strength in the segment below Rs 4,00,000 while Nissan will continue with its plans in the more expensive segment.
