Wayanad district  lies at a distance of 76 km from Kozhikode, located on the southern tip of the Deccan plateau and in the north-eastern part of Kerala.  It is at a short distance from popular tourist destinations like Ooty, Kannur, Bangalore, Mysore and Coorg.  It is a revenue state due to foreign exchange of cash crops such as vanilla, tea, coffee, pepper, cardamom and many other condiments. How to reach Wayanad

Wayanad by Air:
Karipur international airport at Kozhikode is a nearest airport , which is about 100 km away from Wayanad city. Karipur is connected to many cities in India including Delhi, Mumbai and Chennai. Airline services are available from Karipur to many gulf countries, like Oman, Quatar, Kuwait and Saudi.

Wayanad by Rail:
Kozhikode railway station is a nearest railway station, which is nearly 110 km from Wayanad. Taxi services are available from railway station to Wayanad. Kozhikode is well connected to all major cities in India and regular direct train services are available from Kozhikode to Trivandrum, Kochi, Chennai and Bangalore.

Wayanad by Road:
Wayanad is well connected by a wide network of roads and this place can be easily accessed from anywhere in Kerala as well as from neighboring states. NH212 and SH17 are the highways that you need to follow for reaching Wayanad by road,

Wayanad Weather – Best time to visit Wayanad

Wayanad has a salubrious climate all through the year. The best time to visit the place is from October to May.

  • Winters (December to February) are cool with minimum reaching down to 10°C, many tourists like this climate. The period is ideal for sightseeing and other tourist activities.
  • Summers (March to May) are hot but pleasant with the cool breeze from the nearby forest area, and is ideal for exploring the forest area. The maximum temperature reaches up to 36 °C.
  • Monsoons (June to September) are warm with the maximum temperature reaching up to 36 °C. South-west monsoon and north-east monsoon are accompanied with heavy winds and rainfalls. Wayanad looks beautiful with average rainy days.

Tourist Attraction in Wayanad

Banasura Dam
Banasura dam is the largest earth dam in India, It is an ideal picnic spot to laze around and relax. Beautiful lush green hills surround a vast body of crystal clear water, thus enclosing it from most of the sides.

Lakkidi
Lakkidi is known as the ‘gateway to Wayanad’, Lakkidi is located on top of Thamaraserri Ghat pass. Lofty mountains, gushing streams and lush forests add mysticism to the entire trip up the meandering roads.

Edakkal Caves
Edakkal Caves are the major tourist attractions in Wayanad. Situated in the Ambukuthy Hills the caves are famous for the ancient carvings and pictorial writings dating back to the new Stone Age.

Pookat Lake
Pookat Lake is another spot to chill out in Wayanad. You may visit the fresh water aquarium or the children’s park, enjoying boating or even shop for handicraft items and spices at the fresh water Pookat Lake that is wrapped in high hills and gorgeous greens.

Tusharagiri Waterfalls
The Tusharagiri waterfalls are located in the lofty regions of the Western Ghats. The word ‘Tusharagiri’ means snow capped mountains. Though there are no snow-capped mountains here, the pure white waterfalls look like snow that has engulfed the hilly areas of Western Ghats.

Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary
The Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary was established in the year 1973. It is in the protected network area of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. The Sanctuary is a popular tourist attraction and is visited by locals and tourists alike. The Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary is a must visit for the nature as well as the animal lovers.
